Position Overview

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced accounting leader to join a well-established and growing mining and manufacturing company. As Controller, you will oversee all financial operations, ensuring accurate reporting, effective cost management, and regulatory compliance. Reporting directly to the EVP, you will serve as a strategic business partner, driving financial performance while leading and developing the accounting team.

The ideal candidate will bring 10+ years of progressive accounting and leadership experience, with strong knowledge of GAAP, cost accounting, and asset management. Prior banking experience and exposure to the mining or heavy industrial sector are strongly preferred.

Position Responsibilities

• Oversee accounting functions including A/R, A/P, payroll, general ledger, and cost accounting.
• Prepare timely and accurate financial statements, reports, and dashboards.
• Lead annual budgeting and forecasting, and analyze variances.
• Partner with operations teams to track production metrics, costs, and asset utilization.
• Ensure internal controls, regulatory compliance (MSHA, environmental, tax), and audit readiness.
• Manage cash flow, capital projects, inventory controls, and depreciation.
• Supervise and develop accounting staff (Assistant Controller, A/P, Billing, etc.).
• Support system upgrades and financial process improvements.
• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
• Coordinate audits, valuations, insurance reviews, and mandated financial reports.
• Additional responsibilities may include financing, insurance, and banking.

Position Qualifications

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA/CMA preferred).
• 10+ years of combined experience in accounting and controller positions.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, cost accounting, and asset management.
• Proficiency with ERP systems and Microsoft Excel.
• Proven leadership, communication, and analytical skills.

Preferred:

• Banking experience strongly preferred.
• Background in the mining or heavy industrial sector highly valued.
• Experience in system implementation and process optimization.
• Mining software experience is a plus.

Work Environment

• Primarily office-based with occasional visits to mining or processing sites.
• Ability to navigate industrial terrain and wear PPE when on-site.
• May occasionally lift up to 25 lbs.
• Travel required between locations and to remote sites as needed.
