Director, Portfolio Management – Vaginal Wellness
Our client is a mission-driven consumer wellness company in the health and personal care space, focused on creating thoughtful, plant-based products that address evolving consumer needs. The business has grown from an entrepreneurial brand into an established organization with national distribution and a strong presence across major retail channels. As it enters its next phase of growth, the company continues to invest in innovation, operational excellence, and product development that delivers meaningful value to consumers.
Position Overview
Our client is seeking a Director, Portfolio Management to lead the Vaginal Wellness category end to end. This role is structured around a clear philosophy: one leader, accountable for the category as a business. Rather than distributing category decisions across functions, the company wants a single point of ownership for strategy, performance and commercialization.
The Director will serve as the mini-GM for Vaginal Wellness, setting the 2-3 year growth strategy and managing the category P&L. This leader will maintain an always-on view of performance at the SKU, channel, retailer and portfolio level, turning that analysis into clear recommendations to grow, renovate, reposition or rationalize products. The role owns assortment, pack architecture and the commercialization strategy, and partners closely with Finance on annual planning, forecasting and investment allocation.
Reporting to the SVP, Product and Portfolio, the Director represents the Vaginal Wellness category to Finance, Sales, Product, Brand Marketing, Insights, Demand Planning and the executive team. This is a remote position with compensation structured as base salary plus bonus plus equity.
Position Responsibilities
- Serve as the mini-GM for Vaginal Wellness, with full accountability for category strategy, P&L stewardship and revenue and share ambition.
- Build and maintain a 2-3 year category growth strategy covering growth objectives, priority consumers, strategic platforms, channel priorities and competitive positioning.
- Own the full view of category economics, including price-pack-mix, gross margin impact, channel economics, investment performance and trade-offs between near-term and long-term priorities.
- Partner with Finance on annual planning, monthly budget reviews, forecasts and ROI; recommend where to allocate and reallocate category investment.
- Maintain an always-on view of portfolio health, diagnosing performance at the SKU, channel, retailer and portfolio level and recommending whether to grow, optimize, renovate, reposition, rationalize or discontinue products.
- Own assortment and pack-architecture recommendations, and identify product health signals that should trigger renovation or new product development.
- Set channel and customer priorities in partnership with Sales and Growth, covering distribution ambition, assortment, commercialization, price-pack implications and retailer opportunities.
- Own the commercialization strategy once products are ready for market, including portfolio role, target consumer, business objective, channel priorities, investment envelope and launch KPIs; write business briefs for launch execution teams.
- Synthesize input from across the business into one category recommendation covering what changed, why it changed, what is recommended, who owns each lever and the expected business outcome.
- Represent the category in executive and cross-functional forums with a decisive, data-backed point of view, making decisions within agreed authority and escalating only when financial, strategic or risk thresholds require it.
Position Qualifications
Required:
- 8-12+ years of progressive experience in consumer products across commercial, category, portfolio, merchandising, brand or general management roles.
- Direct ownership of a category, portfolio, business or P&L, with accountability for decisions on growth, investment, channels, assortment or commercialization.
- Strong commercial judgment and fluency with the numbers: revenue, margin, product mix, pricing, forecasting, ROI and investment trade-offs.
- Proven record of turning complex performance, consumer and market data into business recommendations and measurable growth outcomes.
- Channel strategy experience across mass, drug, e-commerce and digital commerce channels.
- Ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams without direct authority, synthesize competing inputs and bring forward clear recommendations with confidence.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Finance, Merchandising or a related field.
Preferred:
- Experience in beauty, personal care, feminine care, wellness, OTC or consumer health categories.
- Background selling through both mass retail and digital channels in the U.S. consumer goods market.
- MBA or advanced degree.
If you are a senior consumer products leader with a track record of owning categories end to end and are energized by the opportunity to run a meaningful P&L with real decision-making authority at a purpose-driven brand, we encourage you to apply.
