Digital Marketing Manager

Our client is a nationally recognized professional association dedicated to advancing education, research, and community engagement in its field. Reporting to the Director of Marketing, the Manager, Digital Marketing will lead strategy and execution across all digital channels—email, social media, paid search, and paid media. This individual will play a pivotal role in developing integrated campaigns, improving audience segmentation and automation, and implementing data-driven strategies that enhance engagement and conversion. The ideal candidate is a hands-on digital marketer with strong analytical skills, an eye for creative optimization, and proven experience leading teams and vendors in fast-moving environments.

Location: Hybrid (Chicago office). Candidates must reside in the Chicagoland area.

Position Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the organization’s digital marketing strategy across email, social, SEO/SEM, and paid media to drive awareness, engagement, and conversions.
  • Manage all aspects of email marketing including calendar planning, audience segmentation, testing, deployment, and performance optimization.
  • Oversee the design and execution of marketing automation programs, ensuring process efficiency and measurable ROI.
  • Lead social media strategy across organic and paid platforms, including audience growth, engagement, influencer outreach, analytics, and reporting.
  • Collaborate with marketing peers to build paid media campaigns supporting key programs, events, and professional development offerings.
  • Define KPIs for digital channels; monitor and optimize campaign performance using analytics dashboards and comprehensive scorecards.
  • Partner with Digital Strategy and IT to enhance the website experience, improve SEO, and ensure best-in-class mobile usability.
  • Implement SEO best practices across priority pages to strengthen organic search visibility and site traffic.
  • Manage agency and vendor relationships, including contracts, negotiations, and renewals of martech tools and licenses.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Creative, Communications, and IT to ensure message alignment and unified digital brand presence.
  • Provide digital marketing leadership at select conferences and industry events as needed.

Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing or related discipline.
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in marketing and digital marketing.
  • 3+ years managing professional staff and/or external agencies.
  • Demonstrated expertise in digital channels including email, marketing automation, social media, SEO/SEM, and website optimization.
  • Skilled in martech platforms such as Salesforce or Personify, Eloqua (or similar automation tools), Google Analytics, Google Ads, Bing, and social media management tools (e.g., Sprout Social).
  • Strong analytical mindset; ability to translate data into insights and measurable outcomes.
  • Excellent project management, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously and deliver results on time and within budget.
